1. The Tallest Dog in the World 

On June 13, Guinness World Records announced that a 3-year-old Great Dane named Kevin has been verified as the world’s tallest living dog. The canine from West Des Moines, Iowa, measures 3 feet, 2 inches tall, and has loads of sweet quirks that have led his owners to describe him as a “big baby.”

Kevin, the world’s tallest living male dog, is not big enough to be left Home Alone, which is where his name comes from.

Generally, Great Danes are considered one of the tallest dog breeds and have held the record for the world’s tallest living dog more than once. On average, Great Danes stand 28–35 inches (71–90 cm) tall at the withers, with males usually being slightly taller than females.                

2. History and Name Change 

In the 16th century, strong dogs were imported from England and Ireland to many countries in Europe, where they were used for hunting at princely courts. The dogs back then were known as Englische Docke or Englischer Hund in Germany and were used for hunting bear, boar, and deer. In 1878, the name “Englische Dogge” was changed to “Deutsche Dogge”, laying the foundations for the development of the Great Dane Breed.

Despite attempts to market the breed as a dog of luxury under different names, it later became known as “Great Dane” in English-speaking countries and “Deutsche Dogge” in Germany.
